Turn Your Back on the World With Spring Fashions
Fashion victims can never be content. No sooner have they solved one problem than another one arises. Now, in a survey of 3,511 consumers by G-market, some 2,949 respondents or 84 percent said they are concerned about how they look from behind, and 1,299 or 37 percent said they feel confident about their back. For those who do, clothes and shoes that show off the back to its best advantage are widely available.

¡ß Fetching heels

Ornaments on the back of the heel are a way of drawing attention. College student Kim Ji-hyung says, "I bought heels with ribbons on the back because it¡¯s eye-catching. I feel good because I care about how I look from behind." Street vendor Lee Hyung-joon says, "Since last winter, colorful shoes with ornaments have been selling well. Customers can detach the ribbons when they don't need ornaments."

Heels decorated on the back are well-matched with skirts. And the popularity of miniskirts boosts sales of colorful stockings. "Stockings with small ribbon patterns and butterfly patterns are popular this spring,¡± says a staffer with domestic underwear brand ViVien. ¡°With more colorful and various stockings than ever, you can achieve a variety of fashion styles with a combination of skirts and stockings."

¡ß The waistline

Ribbons and ruffles at the waist are replacing the large belts that were popular last year. According to online store ddm.com, sales of clothes that highlight the back such as tops that expose the shoulders and back and jeans that make hip and legs look slim jumped threefold over the past month. T-shirts fastened with a ribbon in the back are so popular that the company sells 300 of them a day on average. Makers said the T-shirt makes hips look good because the back is shorter than front. Halterneck-style T-shirts and dresses, which look ordinary at the front but expose the back, are even more popular, with daily sales of 1,000 pieces.

¡ß Sexy hips

A G-market staffer says jeans and skirts with uniquely designed hip pockets and embroidered patterns are also popular because they make the hips look good. If your hips are nothing much to write home about, don¡®t worry, just fake it. Hip pads which add volume to a scrawny pelvis are available. Hipskorea.co.ltd, a hip pad merchandiser, reportedly earns W50 million(US$1=W928) a month. Sales are smooth mostly thanks to word of mouth. But beware: hip pads they can be spotted through thin clothes.
