45% of Office Workers Depressed, Survey Shows
An online survey shows that two out of five office workers suffer from depression at work. Even though the employees are active outside the company, they say they are spiritless in the office.

In a survey conducted by jobs website Job Korea of 1,036 office workers on Wednesday, 44.6 percent of the respondents said that while they are active outside the company, they become spiritless or fall into depression at work.

When asked what's behind the depression, 43.5 percent said they were unsure about their future with the company, 35.5 percent indicated uncertainty as to their influence or rank within the firm, 32 percent pointed to job responsibilities, and 31 percent said they were losing out on corporate perks. (Respondents could pick more than one answer.)

Some 65.2 percent of the female respondents claim to suffer from depression at work, which is almost double the percentage of male respondents at 35.3 percent who said the same.

To overcome the problem, 20.3 percent said they drink alcohol or smoke, which was the most selected answer. Another 16.7 percent said they practice self-improvement activities, 14.7 percent talk with colleagues, and 13 percent said they do hobbies such as exercise.
