President Roh Moo-hyun on Wednesday said he was ¡°deeply shocked and grieved to learn¡± of Tuesday¡¯s massacre at Virginia Tech University that killed 33 people. ¡°I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and consolations to the victims, their bereaved families and the American people,¡± Roh said at a press conference after a summit with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi. Roh also sent a telegram of condolence to U.S. President George W. Bush. On Tuesday, Roh already issued two statements of condolences.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo also expressed his ¡°deep regret¡± at a government meeting he chaired on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Song Min-soon made a phone call to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to express his regret and sent her a telegram of condolence. Korean Ambassador to the U.S. Lee Tae-shik attended a memorial service sponsored by the Council of Churches and the Korean-American Association in Washington on Tuesday. He suggested taking turns to fast for 32 days at the initiative of Korean churches in the area, which was accepted by participants. "With this shocking incident, the Korean-American community should take the chance to reflect and try to meld once again into the mainstream of American society," Lee said.
The killer was identified as Korean-born Cho Seung-hui.
