Electronic Tagging for Sex Offenders Passes Committee

The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee passed a bill on electronic tagging for repeat sex offenders on Thursday. The government aims to keep an eye on repeat sex offenders by tagging them with electronic bracelets or anklets for five years.

The bill makes it possible to use the electronic devices for sex offenders against children under the age of 13. The bill says anyone imprisoned more than twice for sex crimes such as rape with combined sentences of more than three years who re-offends within five years will be made to wear an electronic tag.
