Two Koreas' Unions to Celebrate May Day in Ulsan
The labor unions of the two Koreas have agreed to celebrate this May Day together in Ulsan, South Korea. It will be the first time joint celebrations are held in the South. Key leaders of South Korea's two unions including Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) chairman Lee Yong-deuk and Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) president Lee Seok-haeng on Saturday met with their North Korean counterparts, including General Federation of Trade Unions chairman Yeom Soon-gil in Kaesong, North Korea. They agreed to hold this year's May Day celebration in the southern port city, South Korean labor leaders said Sunday. The three unions have held joint May Day celebrations in the North since 2002.

The three plan a rally marking the 20th anniversary of South Korea's pro-democracy uprising in 1987. They plan a football game between South and North Korean workers and cultural performances. About 60 GFTU members are expected to attend the celebration. A South Korean labor leader said the proposal came from the North Koreans. Aside from the celebrations in Ulsan, the FKTU will hold a marathon with migrant workers in Jamsil, Seoul as part of its own May Day celebration.
