Netizens will now be able to profit from video clips posted to user-created content (UCC) sites, because UCC site operators, seeking to secure more content and viewers, have introduced systems to share revenue or give gifts to contributors.
UCC video site Pixcow said from Monday it will pay W10,000(US$1=W943) in cash to the first 3,000 users who post video clips after joining the site. Pixcow said that the event is for users who share original clips, not edited or copied versions. Each person can receive up to W300,000 a day.
Pandora TV has been operating a point-based service called ˇ°Cupiˇ± for users who post video clips since late last year. They can exchange 500,000 cupis for W50,000. Cupis are also used for viewing popular content. Tagstory, another video sharing site, is preparing to introduce a similar service.
The revenue-sharing trend is also developing overseas. Chad Hurley, co-founder and CEO of YouTube, said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that his company will share revenue with millions of users. One of the major innovations the site is working on is a way to allow users to be paid for content, he said.
