China wants swift negotiations between North Korea and the U.S. about Pyongyang¡¯s frozen accounts in a Macau bank, a matter hampering progress in six-party talks on the North¡¯s nuclear program. Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao pn Tuesday called for more progress over U.S. sanctions on North Korea's accounts in Banco Delta Asia. "We hope the U.S. and North Korea can reach consensus on the issue so it can be solved at an early date and we can eliminate the unnecessary obstacles standing in the way of the process of the six-party talks,¡± he said.
Earlier, China's State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan told Japan's New Komeito Party leader Akihiro Ota, who visited Beijing on Monday, that the six-party talks will resume. Liu also said China expects both North Korea and Japan to work harder to improve bilateral relations, another stumbling block to resumption of the multi-nation talks.
