N.Korea Completes Nuke Test Preparations: Lawmaker
North Korea seems to have completed preparations for another nuclear test, a lawmaker said Sunday. Grand National Party Rep. Chung Hyung-keun on his homepage said movements of an unidentified object and people were spotted several times at the entrance of a tunnel on the west side of a hill in Gilju County, North Hamgyeong Province in December. He said the movements are likely related to the transport of materials to turn the tunnel into a nuclear test site. The lawmaker speculates that preparations for a second nuclear test are already complete at the tunnel, the most likely site for a test. He said his information indicated that engineering work is underway in front of the tunnel, likely of facilities to support a nuclear test.

The movements at the tunnel are similar to those spotted before the first nuclear test on Oct. 9 last year. The lawmaker said three buildings near a tunnel on the east side of the hill were removed after the nuclear test last year and a 95 m trough was filled in front of the east tunnel. He said that was probably the removal of buried cables after the nuclear test. However, the lawmaker did not rule out that the east tunnel could be used for another nuclear test. He said he acquired the information from a government source who is acquainted with North Korean affairs.
