Silky Chickens Run For Cover
Silky Chickens, Korea¡¯s natural asset No. 265, are making a beeline out of harm¡¯s way. An official with the Cultural Properties Administration said Wednesday, ¡°We decided to separate some 1,000 Silky chickens from the group of 4,000 that live in Nonsan-gun, South Chungcheong province, to farms in Dongdocheon, Gyeonggi province (400), Bongwha, North Gyungsang province (300), and Jung-gu, Incheon (300).¡± The dispersion is to preserve the species as the entire lot would have to be destroyed in the event of a bird flu outbreak in the region. The dispersion and breeding will cost W180 million (US$=W923).
