James Kim, who had been missing for 10 days after getting lost in a blizzard in a remote part of the U.S. state of Oregon, has been found dead, CNN reported. His wife Kati Kim and their two daughters Penelope (4) and Sabine (7 months) were rescued on Monday, some 1.6 km from the spot were Kim was found by the side of Big Windy Creek in the Oregon wilderness.

Before he died, Kim had left various belongings of his behind as he searched for help, to aid rescuers he thought would be looking for him. But with the weather reaching -6 to -7 degrees Celsius, and 20-30 cm of snow on the ground, officials believe Kim most likely froze to death.

The Korean American and his family had left their home in San Francisco to visit a relative in Seattle. On the way back, they stopped off to see a friend in Portland but disappeared on the way back. A full week after becoming stranded on a secluded road, Kim last Saturday grabbed a lantern and told his wife he was going to head out to look for help.

CNN quoted Josephine County Undersheriff Brian Anderson as saying it was not known how long Kim walked and when he exactly he died. "It seems superhuman to me that he was able to cover the distance he had,¡± Anderson said.

A senior editor of webzine CNET, Kim did not return to work as scheduled on Nov. 27, prompting his staff to report him missing.

CNN, Fox and other broadcasters reported the latest developments as breaking news flashes, and offered condolences to the family. On a website opened by a friend of Kim, thousands of Internet users worldwide posted messages of concern about Kim, and when his death was announced, the site was inundated with condolences.
