Sex Is Vital for Middle-Aged Korean Women: Survey

The Sexual Concerns of Korean Men
Middle-aged Korean women have the world's highest awareness of sex but Korean men the lowest, surveys suggest. Both men and women in Korea consider their sex life a very important aspect of their life in general, but the difference was that Korean men cared little about the satisfaction of their partners.

Bayer HealthCare said Monday a survey of 14,049 women in 14 countries including Korea between April and July this year found that the proportion of so-called ¡°vitalsexual¡± women -- who enjoy a healthy sex life and put emphasis on the satisfaction of and dialogue with their partner -- was the highest in middle-aged Korean women.

The result was published at the ninth Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) in Vienna, Austria.

The survey found that the average proportion of vitalsexual women among the over 40s in the world surveyed stood at 48 percent, but the figure was 66 percent for Korean women. Venezuela came second with 64 percent and Mexico third with 62 percent. Turkey and the U.K. were last on the list with 30 percent and 33 percent.

The pharmaceutical company in a survey of men's sexual awareness published in February this year that the proportion of vitalsexual men in Korea stood at 26 percent, just half the global average of 43 percent, putting Korea at the bottom among 12 surveyed nations. Korean men considered their sex life just as important as their counterparts abroad, but the poll found them the least considerate of the satisfaction of their partner.

When it comes to the importance they place on their sex life, one of the main factors to identify vitalsexuals, 76 percent of all women surveyed answered they consider their sex life important. But in Korea, the figure was 94 percent. Asked why their sex life is important, they answered it was crucial for couples¡¯ feelings of happiness and comfort (59 percent) and because sex made them feel attractive as a woman (29 percent). Kim Kyung-hee (50), who took part in the survey, said, "It¡¯s very important to me that my husband feels attracted to me as a woman and that I have sex appeal. When my husband says he is satisfied with having sex with me, it makes me feel more confident of myself.

Nine in 10 women said they believe it is necessary to have more dialogue with their partner to better their sex life.
