The new LCD screen is available in 2.1- and 2.2-inch sizes and no thicker than a credit card. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the second half of next year. The i-Lens technology allows mobile phone makers to trim 1.4-2.4 mm off the thickness of a mobile phone by integrating panel assembly including a protective layer into a single module.
Samsung Electronics executive vice president Yun Jin-hyuk said the new technology will allow the firm to make mobile LCD panels even slimmer and more shock-resistant in preparation ”°for the age where mobile display panels are getting slimmer everyday." He vowed to make ”°continuous efforts to overcome any restrictions in mobile display technology based on cutting-edge technology.”±
