The disgraced cloning scientist Hwang Woo-suk on Monday filed a suit with the Administrative Court against his old employer Seoul National University to get his job back.
Hwang in the suit alleges unfair dismissal since the university chief had asked an in-house committee to take disciplinary measures against him based on ¡°inaccurate and false results¡± of an investigation into his team¡¯s fraudulent research. According to Hwang, the committee violated procedure by deciding to dismiss him based on the investigation results only. He argues he should be reinstated because the decision not only debased his personal achievement as a scientist but also shattered the hopes of many by blocking opportunities for landmark bioscience research that would contribute to society as a whole.
Hwang was suspended as a professor in February and fired in April this year after he and his team were found to have falsified research papers on stem cells published in the journal Science in 2004 and 2005.
