LG Electronics¡¯ new Shine mobile phone is poised to become an even bigger hit than its predecessor, the Chocolate Phone. Fifteen days after the release of the Shine phone, LG Electronics CEO Kim Ssang-soo said Thursday that 1,500 units are being activated per day. Even the hit Chocolate Phone only managed 1,000 per day at three weeks. The figure is even more remarkable at a time when all industry leaders are flooding the market with new models in a flurry of competition for the end-of-year market. The company believes it is the slide phone¡¯s stainless steel casing and sleek design that gives it the edge.

The front of the LG-SV420/ KV4200/ LV4200 models is a mirror LCD, and the stainless steel gives the phone a feeling of durability and solidity, the firm says. ¡°Shine is a combination of design, durability and ease of use,¡± says Park Mun-hwa, the CEO of LG Electronics¡¯ mobile communications business. ¡°With distinct marketing and strategy that capture the hearts of consumers, Shine will follow Chocolate as our next big hit.¡±
