Largest Wind-Power Farm Starts Operation

The largest domestic wind-power generation farm has begun operations in Daegwallyeong pass of Gangwon Province. The facility can generate 244,000 megawatts of electricity per year, which is enough to provide clean power to 50,000 households. Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Chung Sye-kyun on Thursday attended the launching ceremony. The government has poured around US$160 million into the farm. Policy-makers say the facility will help lower emissions of greenhouse gases as well as dust particles released from conventional coal-fired thermal power plants.
