Born to a Korean mother and an American father, the idiosyncratically named actress Moon Bloodgood (30) was recently tapped for the lead in a new 13-part TV drama for primetime ABC. In ¡°Day Break,¡± which will be invading living rooms on Nov. 15, she plays the role of Rita Shelten, the girlfriend of an African American detective.

Born in the waning hippie days of 1973 as the couple¡¯s second daughter, little Bloodgood reportedly had a propensity for dancing and singing from an early age. Her mother worked various odd jobs -- as an environmental services associate and as a fruit slicer for a catering firm -- but even so she often said that she wanted to make sure that she did not pass down poverty to her children and took on extra hours at work. In this manner she raised her two daughters.

In her 20s Moon found work as a model. In 2000 she headed for the Big Apple, where she was immediately placed on the fast track to success, signing contracts with some 30 internationally recognized brands including Adidas and Nike. But in 2001, her mother broke her arm at work, and Bloodgood put her modeling career on hold and returned to LA to look after her mother.

But once back in LA she plunged into the challenges of the movie and television industry, and with her innate talent and passion for her craft, it was not long till she started getting the attention of the industry. In the film ¡°Eight Below¡±, which rose to no. 1 at the box office on release in the U.S. and also made it to Korean screens, she played the female lead, a pilot named Katie. Last year she was engaged to fellow actor Eric Balfour.
