Chinese Airline to Halt Pyongyang Flights
China Southern Airlines has decided to halt Beijing-Pyongyang flights after Oct. 27, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported Wednesday. The carrier has been the only foreign airline to operate a regular service to the North Korean capital, commuting between the two cities three times a week -- on Monday, Wednesday and Friday -- since April.

NHK said the airline did not reveal details but said the decision was part of a revision of its flight schedules.

According to the broadcaster, the halt is seen as a bid for the carrier to make ends meet in winter, when the number of passengers to North Korea decreases. But others speculate the decision has to do with the Chinese government¡¯s tougher stance toward the North since Pyongyang¡¯s nuclear test on Oct. 9, it said.
