Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is seeking to visit Seoul for a summit with President Roh Moo-hyun in mid-October, right after the Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving holiday. However, Chong Wa Dae says a specific date has not been decided. The two leaders spoke over the phone Thursday and agreed to hold the meeting at an appropriate time to improve bilateral relations.

Korea has boycotted summit talks with Japan for nearly a year in protest against repeated visits by Japanese leaders to a war shrine in Tokyo that honors World War II criminals.
