A group of Korean evangelicals who went to Afghanistan for what is billed as a peace march have been rounded up and will leave the devoutly Muslim country on Saturday, a government official said Friday. The group sponsoring the event told the government 927 participants were in volatile nation. Of those, 620 will leave by land the rest will be flown out of Kabul.
Those leaving overland will fly to border cities and then travel across the border by bus. According to a government official, they will move in three separate groups, but the route is being kept confidential as a precaution. There have already been angry demonstrations against what Afghans say are the ¡°proselytizing¡± visitors.
Meanwhile a group that was refused entry into Afghanistan is preparing a lawsuit against the Foreign Ministry, government officials said. "If there was a problem on the Afghan side, our government should have clarified the situation instead of becoming a further hindrance," the head of the sponsoring Institute of Asian Culture and Development (IACD), Choi Han-woo, said. But government officials fired back, "We tried an many occasions to convince the group of the danger of holding such an event," adding, "It is clear that the responsibility for the entire situation lies with the sponsors, who intended to carry on with the event."
