Empas, one of the nation¡¯s major online portal sites, announced Monday the launch of the Empas Toolbar 2.0 that boasts a mosquito-repellent feature.
The application works by emitting radio frequencies in the range of 200-600 Hz from the computer's speakers. Male mosquitoes, which produce sounds in a similar frequency range when they fly, are avoided by female mosquitoes who feast on people unlike their male counterparts who mainly dine on nectar.
As different types of mosquitoes live in different areas, the application chooses the right frequencies depending on the region. Even while the feature is engaged, users can listen to music or play games because the program generates the same repellent effect under such situations and is barely recognizable, the portal announced. Visitors can download the application from the toolbar site (toolbar.empas.com) free of charge.
In addition, the portal set up a bulletin board (www.mogi.empas.com), that provides experts to answer user's mosquito-related questions.
