Seoul police have won arrest warrants for 58 construction union leaders who led an illegal raid on the headquarters of the nation's leading steelmaker POSCO. About 1,500 unionized workers of POSCO subcontractors occupied the building for nine days, demanding higher wages and better working conditions. The union leaders face charges of obstruction of business and violation of assembly and demonstration laws.

The occupation ended Friday after most of the workers left the building. Police have arrested more than 120 of them and threatened sterner measures. POSCO, the world's fifth largest steelmaker, says the protest has cost it more than US$200 million.
