The Grand National Party saw its support rating increase to 48 percent from 45.4 percent after its chairwoman Park Geun-hye was attacked. Support for the ruling Uri Party decreased from 20 percent to 18.9 percent in the Sunday opinion poll, a day after the slasher attack that left Park with a 11-cm cut to her face, and that of the Democratic Labor Party from 10.5 percent to 9.7 percent, and the Millennium Democratic Party from 4.3 percent to 3.8 percent.

The polls of 11,100 voters nationwide for their support of candidates for provincial governor and city mayor was carried out by Korea Gallup on May 19-20 and again on May 21 at the request of the Chosun Ilbo and seven local newspapers - the Kangwon Ilbo, Kyeongsang Ilbo, Kyeongin Ilbo, Kookje Shinmun, Daejon Ilbo, and Halla Ilbo.

Supporters started to rally around their party, Gallup said.
