President Roh Moo-hyun has ordered prosecutors and police to work together to investigate Saturday night’s slasher attack on opposition party leader Park Geun-hye.

Presidential spokesman Chung Tae-ho said after being briefed this morning on the incident, the president ordered his Cabinet to determine its cause as soon as possible, saying that such violence is unacceptable in the election process of a democratic society.

President Roh also expressed deep sympathy for Park and added that he wished her a speedy recovery. Roh's chief of staff was reportedly planning to visit Yonsei University's Severance Hospital where Park is recovering.
