U.S. President George W. Bush has reiterated his concerns about North Korea¡¯s quarrel with the international community over its nuclear program. The U.S. leader says he is disturbed by North Korea's defiant pursuit of nuclear arms at the expense of its people, many of whom are dying from starvation.
In yet another public session aimed at garnering support for his campaign against terror, Bush also told students at Johns Hopkins University he was equally concerned about the sufferings of the North Korean people, who are being deprived of food. The comments came in answer to a question about U.S. policy in the Asia-Pacific region.
The U.S. intelligence community claims North Korea has at least two atomic weapons. Bush has made no secret of the fact that he believes North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is a tyrant who spends resources on developing nuclear weapons rather than feeding his people.
Bush also reaffirmed his dedication to peace in the Asian region, adding U.S. have an active presence in the area to ensure its stability. He then turned the spotlight on the strained ties between South Korea, Japan and China, expressing hopes that the three nations will hold talks to settle their differences over their troubled history up to the end of World War II.
