Yomiuri Giants no. 4 Lee Seung-yeop is showing an almost frightening vigor in what is as yet only the beginning of the baseball season. In a season opener three-game series against Yokohama BayStars, Lee unleashed a violent attack of five hits and four RBIs including two homeruns, making him a hot topic once again, this time in Japan.
Japan's Sports Hochi newspaper is predicting that Lee will batter the opposing team's pitchers into an irrecoverable state in the three-game road series against the Yakult Swallows that begins on Tuesday. It called the sight of the slugger selecting his bat -- of which he will be using three different weights this season -- from the case as looking ¡°like a samurai selecting a sword¡± to slay his enemy.

Meanwhile, the athlete¡¯s move to an MLB team in the home of baseball is becoming a reality, and he looks to be a strong candidate for rookie-of-the-year when he does make that crossover.
The Arizona Republic, the biggest daily in the U.S. state, mentioned the Lee¡¯s future in an article outlining the sportswriter's predictions for the season on Monday, ¡°After his one-year contract with the Yomiuri Giants ends, Korea's ¡®Lion King¡¯ Lee Seung-yeop signs a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers and is named 2007 National League Rookie of the Year¡± ? an indication just how high the Major League¡¯s expectations for Lee Seung-yeop are.
