Uzbekistan¡¯s President Islam Karimov on Thursday expressed his support for Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon's run for the top UN post.
In a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Kim One-ki, the Uzbek strongman said he believes the next UN secretary-general should come from Asia. Karimov, whose state visit here started Thursday, added he ¡°highly values¡± Ban's experience as a diplomat and said it would be difficult to find a better candidate.
Karimov is only the second head of state to announce open support for Ban's candidacy following Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who made the pledge last month in a meeting with President Roh Moo-hyun.
