Koreans See China as Biggest Security Threat
Who is considered South Korea's biggest security threat in 10 years' time? Not North Korea. An opinion poll by the state-run Korea Institute of Defense Analysis of some 1,000 Koreans shows they think China that will pose the biggest security threat to the country a decade from now.

Over 38 percent of respondents picked China, followed by Japan with 24 percent and North Korea with 21 percent. The survey showed many people in their 20s with at least college degrees fingered China as the biggest threat.

Korea's long-time ally the U.S., ranked fourth on the list of security threats. But more than 80 percent of respondents picked the U.S. as the country that is of the greatest help to Korea right now. The latest findings are quite different from a poll conducted in 2004 by a local research company, which cited the U.S. as South Korea's biggest security threat followed by North Korea.
