Number of South Koreans Heading North Doubles
The number of Koreans traveling between South and North Korea between January and February this year nearly doubled from last year, the Unification Ministry said Friday. It stood at 12,849 people, up 89.3 percent.

South Koreans who traveled to the North accounted for 99 percent, or 12,849, compared to a mere 54 North Koreans. ˇ°February saw 7,129 people travel between the two Koreas, more than twice the number last year,ˇ± the ministry said, 7,096 South Koreans and 33 North Koreans.

The number of South Koreans traveling to the North has been steadily increasing from 7,280 in 2000 to 87,028 in 2005. By contrast, there was no consistent pattern for North Koreans, varying from 706 in 2000 to 191 in 2001 and 1,313 in 2005.
