Prosecutors and police have launched an investigation into Internet users who illegally downloaded films on a file swapping site.
Seoul Jongno police said Thursday they searched a peer-to-peer file-sharing service on March 7 and summoned 82 people who used the service to illegally download movies. Police reportedly have trouble determining charges since most of them are junior school students.
The investigation was initiated after the copyright holder for the film ¡°Lord of War,¡± released in Korea in November, filed a complaint. Copyright law requires a complaint from victims before authorities can act, but a bill now before the National Assembly would scrap that requirement.
