The Christian Council of Korea on Tuesday protested against the planned May release of a Hollywood movie based on the bestselling novel ˇ°The Da Vinci Code.ˇ± Two CCK officials, the Rev. Hong Jae-chul and the Rev. Koh Chang-gon, paid a visit to the headquarters of Sony Pictures Releasing Korea in Seoul and called on the distributor to cancel the release.
On Feb. 28, the council decided to mobilize all its resources to prevent a Korean release of the Tom Hanks vehicle they say ˇ°disparages the divinity of Jesus Christ.ˇ±
The worldwide publishing phenomenon by U.S. novelist Dan Brown generated protests mainly from Catholic circles by implying that the church concealed the ˇ°truthˇ± that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and that his descendants to this day walk through the pages of airport thrillers.
