Two Korean short-track speed skaters made history on Sunday when they won their third gold medals at the Turin Winter Olympics, the first time ever Korean athletes have won three gold in either summer or winter games.

Jin Sun-yu raced past two Chinese skaters, Wang Meng and Yang Yang, to finish first in the women¡¯s 1,000 m final, adding another gold to her wins in the 1,500 m and 3,000 m relay races.

Ahn Hyun-soo, who competed in the men¡¯s 5,000 m relay with Lee Ho-suk, Seo Ho-jin, Song Suk-woo, finished first after a last spurt to outpace a Canadian rival in the last round. Earlier in the games, Ahn won the 1,500 m and 1,000 m events. Korea¡¯s win in the men¡¯s relay was the first since the 1992 Albertville Olympics.

Ahn also won bronze in the men¡¯s 500 m event, following gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno of the U.S. and silver medalist Francois-Louis Tremblay of Canada.

By winning six gold, three silver and two bronze in the discipline, Korea finished in seventh place in the medal rankings. Germany topped the medal count with 11 gold, 12 silver and 6 bronze. The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver, Canada.
