Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon will meet U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice mid-month for a first strategy meeting that will touch on counterfeiting charges the U.S. has leveled against North Korea, officials in Seoul said Friday. The two top diplomats are expected to stress their position that six-party talks on the North¡¯s nuclear program and U.S. sanctions on North Korean firms over the charges should be treated as two separate issues.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department has announced that its financial crimes unit will visit Macau, Korea and Hong Kong at the end of the month. The visit is intended to present U.S. evidence of North Korea¡¯s counterfeiting of dollars and discuss a plan of action, a government source said.
