The South Korean military has completed a project to remove about 4,000 landmines scattered along the border with the North. The army also cleared a 10,000 sq. m area on the southern side of the civilian passage restriction line. The project is part of a grand plan launched in 2000 to remove all mines around civilian access area by 2006.
Next year, a large area from Dorasan Station to Paju City will be dug up at the request of the Unification Ministry. There, the ministry plans to set up a cross-border power transmission line for North Korea.
