Samsung Takes Lead in Slim Slide Phone Market
Samsung Electronics is making headway in the market for slim phones after launching a series of slim flip and slide models. The company said Sunday it sold nearly 90,000 slim slide phones - the SCH-V840, SPH-V8400, and SPH-V8450 - since they were launched in November. Daily sales already stand at over 2,000 units. They reached the number much faster than the slim Bluetooth phones (SCH-V740, SPH-V7400, and SPH-V7450), which reached daily sales of over 2,000 in October, four months after their release.

The slim body, built-in MP3 player, 1.3 megapixel digital camera and file viewing and speech recognition functions contribute to the models¡¯ soaring popularity. They also boast an ¡°airplane mode¡± which automatically turns off the call function but lets customers continue to use other functions on board their flight.

A Samsung Electronics staffer said slim phones would be a buzzword in the world mobile phone market next year. The company will keep launching slim models equipped with functions made possible by cutting edge technology, he added.
