An opposition lawmaker has proposed a plan to assign native-speaking English teachers to elementary, middle and high schools across the country by 2010. A bill sponsored by Grand National Party Rep. Lee Qyu-taek would assign a native speaker to every school from 2007, with priority given to schools in rural and poor areas.
"We are seeing increasing foreign currency losses as more and more students go abroad to study at an early age, so we have to increase native-speaking English teachers in schools here," Lee said.
