Six-Party Talks ¡®Should Resume Before Lunar New Year¡¯
China wants to resume six-way talks on North Korea¡¯s nuclear weapons programs at least before the lunar New Year on Jan. 29, a government official said Tuesday.

He said the plan was proposed to Seoul by a Chinese official at the APEC forum in Busan. Allowing for the lunar New Year holidays, the third week of January would be the most likely time for the six nations to reconvene in Beijing.

The current fifth round of the talks started on Nov. 9 but broke for the APEC forum only three days later with no resumption date set. Officials said a date this year was unlikely.

When talks start up again, participants will discuss ways of implementing the principles agreed in the last round in September.
