Russian High-Speed Hovercraft Due Wednesday
Russia is sending three Murena E-type hovercrafts to South Korea as part of a repayment plan for a loan from under an economic cooperation accord. The first will arrive at Incheon harbor this week. "Under the Bulgom (Brown Bear) project for the repayment of loans in economic cooperation from Korea to Russia, one of the hovercrafts to be given to Korea left Khabarovsk on the Oct. 14 aboard a tug boat and is currently headed for Incheon harbor.¡± Hovercraft can sail at high speeds and are especially useful in rescuing aircraft or ships stuck in tidelands. This is Korea¡¯s first Russian hovercraft.

The vessel is 30.4 m long, 13.1 m wide and 14.1 m high and moves at speeds of up to 55 knots (102 km/h) with the help of two gas turbines. It can carry 24 tons of freight. It costs around W43.5 billion ($43 million) per vessel. The two remaining craft are expected in the second half of next year.
