The Japanese government has been testing Chinese and Korean kimchi imports for parasites since Wednesday, adding to embarrassment in Korea over the revelation that some domestic brands were infested with roundworm eggs.

The targets of the inspection also include Korean-made hot pepper paste and beef marinade banned in China a day earlier. If parasites are found, it will deal another blow to Korean food exporters.

The Japanese Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said Friday quarantine offices around the country started checking Chinese and Korean-produced kimchi after the two countries found parasite eggs in each other¡¯s products. Sixteen Korean kimchi and beef marinade exporters are under the microscope.
