Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung met with his U.S. counterpart Donald Rumsfeld on Friday morning for an annual Seoul-Washington security consultative meeting. The defense chiefs discussed anti-terror and security measures for the APEC forum to be held in Korea's southern port city of Busan next month. Also on the agenda was the relocation of U.S. military bases in Korea.
On the eve of the meeting, the commander of the U.S. Forces Korea, General Leon LaPorte, said the number of U.S. troops in South Korea will drop below 30,000 by the end of this year, saying the South Korean government is eager to take more responsibility for its own defense.
