The price for sightseeing in Kaesong, North Korea may cost up to 10 times more than what people pay to visit Mt. Kumgang. North Korea reportedly asked the negotiating tour operator Lotte Tours to pay US$200 per tourist to visit the capital of the ancient Koryo kingdom.
Lotte officials denied a report saying the North also asked for US$10 million worth of fertilizer and construction materials to launch the new tourism program. The company says it is reviewing the profitability of tours.
A South Korean lawmaker took issue with North Korea's steep demands, saying a reasonable price guideline is needed for business with the North.
