Professor Hwang Woo-suk at Seoul National University, a pioneer in stem cell research, has made 10 codes of ethics to be followed when practicing biotechnology.
Dr. Hwang and 5,000 other members at the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology plan to disclose the Charter next month and urge cooperation among co-scientists. Included in the Charter is a provision that bans any research that could violate human dignity.
The charter comes amid controversy over Dr. Hwang's research on human cloned embryos, with many fearing that his work would be used in more than therapeutic cloning in the future.
