Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan on Tuesday instructed security forces to deal firmly with any illegal attempts to topple a statue of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur in Incheon¡¯s Freedom Park. The park became the site of a violent clash between police and protestors on Sunday.
Government Information Minister Kim Chang-ho quoted Lee as telling a Cabinet meeting any illegal attempt to topple the monument would not only damage the Korea-U.S. alliance but undermine a mature attitude to history in Korean society.
