The six-party talks on ending North Korea's nuclear program are set to open in Beijing on Tuesday with the key sticking point being whether North Korea should be given a right to peaceful use of nuclear power.
Since the talks went into a recess on August 7, North Korea has hardened its stance on the right to a civilian nuclear program and delayed the resumption of talks originally set for the week of August 29.
The United States, on its part, has also adopted a tough position ahead of the talks, saying it would not compromise with Pyongyang's demand to maintain peaceful atomic activities.
Meanwhile, South and North Korea will begin bilateral minister-level talks on Tuesday in the North's capital to address various issues discussed in the last round such as the repatriation of South Korean POWs and setting up a direct air route between Seoul and Pyongyang.
