More DMB Phones Hit Market
Digital Multimedia Broadcasting appears to be gaining some ground among consumers. TU Media¡¯s satellite DMB service leads the market with 100,000 members, and DMB handsets are thus also selling better. Samsung Electronics, which introduced the first DMB phone, is seeing competition from LG Electronics, Pantech and Sky Teletech.

Products are improving. The LCD screens of Samsung¡¯s SCH-B100 and SCH-B200 phone allow screens to be viewed almost side-on. The SCH-B200, the latest version of the world¡¯s first DMB phone, is a slide-type gadget with a rotatable screen measuring 2.2 inches with 262 k color. The use of an exclusive DMB chip improves graphics, the company says. Samsung has promised to correct problems with the model that occurred early this year and promote the model as its flagship product for the second half of the year.

LG Electronics satellite DMB phone SB120 almost looks like a folder type, except that the screen rotates 360 degrees. It also has a built-in stand. It measures 106 x 54.6 x 25.7 mm and has a 2.2 inch LCD screen, much like the Samsung models.

Pantech¡¯s PT-S130 stands out with its Bluetooth technology for wireless earphones. The 2.4 inch LCD screen rotates sideways, and it is small and light measuring 101 x 48 x 23.3 mm and weighing 140 g.

Sky Teletech¡¯s satellite DMB phone IMB-1000 slides open to give users a slightly wider screen. A touch-screen interface has attracted criticism that it consumes too much power and generates heat.
