Israeli and Palestinian university students on Sunday spent time together walking along the castle walls of Suwon's Hwaseong Fortress. The students attending Gyeonggi Province's "KOPAIS Friends-Making" event consisted of 10 Israelis from Hebrew and Tel Aviv universities and 10 Palestinians from Bethlehem and Birzeit universities. They walked along the fortress walls hand-in-hand and talked of peaceful coexistence in their violence-driven region.
The KOPAIS program, part of the provinces Peace Festival 2005, was planned as an event for exchanges between the young people of the three countries. In future, the organizers hope to include North Korean students. On Thursday, Israeli ambassador to Korea Uzi Manor invited the Israeli and Palestinian students to the ambassador's residence on Sept. 5.
