A court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 months in prison for spreading spyware programs through portal sites
Spyware groups malicious programs that stealthily install themselves on computers to execute certain unwanted functions like leaking personal information of users.
The Seoul Central Court found the man identified as Chung guilty of contracting with a pornographic website to spread spyware that changed usersĄŻ main screen to the porn site. It also automatically opened the porn site when a specific word was typed into the address bar and featured pop-up porn advertisements every 30 minutes. Chung was sentenced to eight months in prison for a similar offense in July last year.
The bench found Chung illegally obtained usersĄŻ personal information and spread the spyware on a massive scale.
