Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore, best known for her performance in "Charlie's Angels," will appear in a Korean commercial, Cheil Communication announced Monday. The company said Barrymore will advertise the ice cream giant Baskin Robbins in a series of commercials starting in August. The actress signed a one-year deal with the company worth US$500,000 to join fellow Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow on the payroll of Korean advertisers.
The first commercial to be screened from Aug.1, features the actress at a newspaper stand holding an ice cream cone and selecting a newspaper. Taking in the view, a man -- former Armani model Michael Brager -- says he wishes he could be the ice cream cone. She notices the man, smiles and leaves. Follow-up commercials will continue the riveting storyline until next year.
A Baskin Robbins official said Barrymore's "lovable and strong" image was perfect for the ice cream maker, adding the company hoped to appeal to more sophisticated urban women.
