Banks in Drive to Make Staff Go Home
More and more banks are designating special days when staff can go home on time -- otherwise a rarity in an industry that traditionally regards clock-watchers and refuseniks as a social evil.

Shinhan Bank has designated Wednesday a ¡°Three No¡¯s¡± day since last August -- no night work, no after-work socializing and no business appointments. Executives take the lead in abandoning their post when the clock strikes, and individual schedules are rearranged so staff do not work overtime.

For workers at Woori Bank, every Wednesday is ¡°No Alcohol Day.¡± Chohung Bank and Hana Bank ¡°force¡± staff to leave the office on time every second Wednesday of the month, a day designated as a ¡°Family Day.¡± ¡°It¡¯s a day we can have a happy dinnertime with our family,¡± says Hana staffer Bang Dong-ok. Chohung Bank¡¯s Family Day has proved so popular that more and more branches are implementing it once or twice a week.
