Unification Minister Chung Dong-young on Monday said South Korea must focus on getting six-party talks on North Korea¡¯s nuclear program restarted in July. Chung said Seoul had a crucial role to play in finding a creative solution to the problem once the talks are back on track.
Chung, who returned from a four-day visit to the U.S. on Sunday, told a press conference his meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney was ¡°quite important,¡± adding substance to reports that persuading Washington¡¯s leading hardliner to soften his stance was a main purpose of Chung¡¯s visit. He said U.S. leaders understood that Korea has a useful role in reaching a settlement with Pyongyang.
