Are W100,000 Cashier's Checks Now Banknotes?
The latest edition of ¡°MRI Bankers' Guide to Foreign Currency,¡± a U.S. quarterly recording the official currencies of the world, pictures Korea¡¯s W100,000 cashier¡¯s checks alongside ordinary banknotes as if they were simply another bill. Korea¡¯s largest denomination bills are worth W10,000 (US$10), so the cashier¡¯s checks printed by financial institutions are in many places accepted in lieu of banknotes, the magazine said.

The quarterly is used as a reference for currency exchanges by central banks, financial bodies, moneychangers and travel agencies worldwide. The Bank of Korea and other banks here use it as such.
